GED Classes Slidell, Louisiana

This page lists all GED® (in Louisiana: HiSET) prep facilities and testing centers in the Slidell, Louisiana, region.

Louisiana switched from the GED® test to the alternative HiSET option for the state’s HSE (high school equivalency) testing program in early 2014. The new GED is only offered on a computer and was getting rather expensive. The more affordable HiSET is offered in both a paper-based and a computerized version, and the exam’s content is pretty much like the old version of the GED. To see if you can enroll in the HiSET program check out the page HiSET in Louisiana.

The switch to the HiSET

One if the biggest changes that were implemented in the GED test was that the complete exam must be done on a computer rather than on paper. The price was also a concern as it nearly doubled. All in all reasons enough for the state of Louisiana to make the switch to one of the available options, the HiSET.

Five tests

The HiSET exam includes five subject tests in these academic sectors: Math, English Reading, English Writing, Science, and Social Studies. You may also want to check out this post that includes links to all U.S. GED programs. Though online preparation can be a great option, you must come to an official HiSET testing site to sit for the exam in person. There is no online HiSET or GED testing.

No online GED or HiSET testing

The HiSET exam measures fundamental matters that students are explained in high school. After completing the five HiSET tests successfully, you will receive the Louisiana High School Equivalency Diploma. The HiSET, like the GED, is NOT available online. In all states, the exam must be taken at an official test center. If you buy something online, you can be sure it’s fake. Schools and employers will not accept these phony documents. Don’t waste your money! Online preparation though is perfectly okay, so you may benefit from these video instruction and practice tests.

The HiSET/GED and your future

In Louisiana, we still can find some 600,000 adults who did not finish high school, and the HiSET/GED is a perfect way for them to catch up. State officials said they changed to a new provider because they didn’t want to offer computer-based testing only. They were afraid a lot of potential candidates would be put off if they had to do a computer test. It is the ultimate goal of both HiSET and GED to put adults on the right track towards a college education and career training so they will be better capable of building a brighter future and supporting a family.
